Blue Inc’s sales flourish after expansion drive

Menswear chain Blue Inc is expected to post a 50% hike in sales this year, just 12 months after it was bought by acquisition vehicle Marlow Retail.
The chain is forecast to post pre-tax profits of £800,000 on sales of £30m for the year to December 31 2007. The performance provides a glimmer of hope for the branded young fashion market, which has suffered poor trading.

The rapid sales growth has been attributed to an aggressive growth plan. By Christmas Blue Inc will have opened 15 stores this year and will have grown from 28 shops to 51 since it was acquired by Marlow Retail for between £5m and £10m.

Store openings this year have included shops in Milton Keynes, Bedford, Elephant and Castle and Woolwich in south London, Staines in Middlesex, and the Westfield Derby mall.

Managing director Steven Cohen believes the business will post further sales growth, taking its turnover to £40m next year.
Blue Inc sells 80% own- brand product and 20% brands such as Kickers, Ben Sherman and Levi’s.
