Bluewater attracts 350,000 shoppers over weekend

Bluewater enjoyed its busiest weekend of the Christmas period so far, with almost 350,000 shoppers visiting the Kent retail and leisure centre between Friday and Sunday.

Bluewater, which has 300 stores and more than 50 restaurants, said footfall on Black Friday and Saturday was up 7% compared to the same days last year.

The shopping centre said fashion retailers reported strong sales of festive knitwear, footwear, handbags, outerwear and embellished products over the weekend.

Robert Goodman, Bluewater general manager, said: “We anticipate this strong performance continuing right through to Christmas Eve, and have already introduced extended opening hours to provide even more opportunities for retailers to capture sales.”

The shopping centre said more than 10% of its floor area is new or enhanced this Christmas, including the first non-high street Jack Wills in the UK, Reebok’s new ‘fit hub’, and stores from Triumph and Topshop

Victoria’s Secret and Pink, the retailer’s lingerie fascia targeted at 15-22 year-olds, will open stores totalling 12,000 sq ft next spring.
