Brand house and supplier BMB Group plans to bump up the distribution of menswear brand Melka after buying the Swedish business last week.
BMB Group, which owns and manufactures brands including Gibson, The Label, Baracuta, Haggar and Alexandre Savile Row, aims to regain distribution that the brand had lost in the UK over the past few years.
BMB managing director of Melka's international business Mark Cotter said: "The brand image and marketing has been a little inconsistent with who the customer is, which is between 25 and 40 years old. But the brand has great heritage and a great distribution network. I think it also had issues with quality and delivery when sourcing was moved from Portugal to the Far East a few years ago.
"It has about half the accounts it had six or seven years ago, but we will fix that with our logistics and IT capabilities."
Cotter added that BMB would retain all of Melka's UK sales team and would launch a marketing campaign spearheaded by group marketing director Kevin Stone.
BMB Group bought the brand from M/T Owner AB, which acquired the label along with the Tenson brand from the Jacques Vert Group last year.
Melka has about 200 stockists in the UK and about 2,000 across nine countries.
