Brands uneasy over WSA date swap

The decision to move the autumn 08 edition of US footwear show WSA later in the calendar caused concern among buyers and exhibitors at last week's event.

Next season the show will fall three weeks later than last year, seven weeks after Bread & Butter, as it moves to three separate venues.

While the general mood at the show was upbeat, the change has not been well received by many European exhibitors. Fred Perry footwear global sales manager Tim Phipps said that although the show is still a priority, the move would be inconvenient. "It's going to come too late," he said. "I like to get all orders in before my sales cut-off, so the earlier the show the better. It means I can ensure retailers get their delivery on time. Pushing the show back will compromise my forward order schedule."

A WSA spokeswoman said the change to the schedule was a "one off".

The next edition of WSA takes place on February 21-23 2008 in Las Vegas.
