Brantano to shut Thanet shop

Brantano UK is to shutter its shop in Thanet, Kent, just a week after announcing the business was going into administration, putting 2,000 jobs at risk.

The store, located in the Westwood Retail Park, is still trading but now has closing down signs in the window and the Brantano sign over the shop has been removed.

Tony Barrell, Mike Jervis and Rob Hunt of PwC were appointed joint administrators of Brantano UK on January 21.

The administrators said all 140 Brantano shops and 60 concessions are still trading but they are offering discounts across the chain as part of a strategy to drum up interest in the business.

Robert Moran, deals partner at PwC, is leading the sales process and said:

“We are encouraged by the level of interest we have received so far in the Brantano business, with a number of parties expressing interest for the entire business as well as enquiries received for individual leases and collections of leases.”

Tony Barrell, lead administrator, added: “Our trading strategy reflects our continued focus on selling the Brantano business as a going concern and we will continue to evaluate our strategy as the sale process progresses over the coming days.”
