Bread & Butter Berlin shrinks to one hall

Berlin tradeshow Bread & Butter will shrink to one hall for the January edition, it has been revealed, ending weeks of speculation that it might be cancelled.

Bread & Butter founder Karl-Heinz Müller has confirmed the show will take place on January 19-21 on its usual grounds at Berlin Tempelhof, but will be contained to one hall compared to the five it had for the most recent edition in July.

The 200 brands already signed up to the show, including Nudie Jeans and Crocs, will be exhibited in the central Urban Base, regardless of where they were last season (Urban Base, Urban Fashion, Urban Superior, L.O.C.K or Lunapark).

In the summer Müller announced the January edition would re-locate to Barcelona (where it was held between 2005 and 2009), but had to cancel the plan after it failed to win enough support.

Müller is planning to run an edition of Bread & Butter in Seoul, South Korea, in September 2015.

  • How the mighty fall. A far cry from the days when you had to practically audition your collections before being "accepted" and deigned to be allowed to be a part of the show.

  • How can any brand think about showing here, there are so many other better shows which are more relevant..

  • Who cares! Are the shops going to empty next year without B+B!?!?!?

  • The writing has been on the wall for ages, though Muller hasn't done himself any favours.

Trade shows - Who needs them?

  • They should have put even more (revenue generating) Cafes in the other halls... no one would have noticed the lack of brands...

  • This is deserved - having dealt with them for several years we have found them to be rude, a strategic loose cannon and arrogant. They will learn the hard way that to be a competitive business they need to listen to their customers and have some humility

  • The savvy ones knew that B&B was on the skids many seasons ago, but the press and hype gave B&B an appearance of credibility it didn't actually have.
