Designer boutique Browns has signed a deal to acquire a property on Bethnal Green Road in east London, which will be mostly retail space, Drapers understands.

The building is thought to be 10,000-12,000 sq ft and is expected to open at the end of next year. It will be Browns’ third retail space in London, adding to stores on South Molton Street and Sloane Street.

Bethnal Green Road is close to the new offices of indie etail portal Farfetch on Old Street roundabout. Farfetch acquired Browns for an undisclosed amount in May.

At the time Farfetch said it plans to use Browns to develop and test innovations in retail technology. It is not yet known if the new space will be used for this purpose.

Browns was founded by Joan Burstein – known as Mrs B – and her husband Sidney on South Molton Street in 1970. The Sloane Street store opened in 1976. It has its own transactional website and began selling through Farfetch in 2012.

Browns had not yet responded to requests for a comment.
