Burberry adds to its top team

Burberry has appointed Leanne Wood as chief people and corporate affairs officer and Fumbi Chima as chief information officer as the British firm bulks up its management team.

Wood will report into Burberry chief creative and chief executive Christopher Bailey and will be responsible for corporate affairs and human resources globally in the new role. She will join the team in November from drinks conglomerate Diageo, where she has been group HR director since 2013.

Bailey said: “As chief people and corporate affairs officer, Leanne has a global remit with great strategic importance across our business, brand and culture.

“I am confident that her incredibly strong and diverse background, coupled with her great strategic vision and inspiring leadership and people skills, will prove to be an amazing asset to Burberry.”

Chima also joins in November and will report into chief operating officer, John Smith. Her role will be to oversee Burberry’s technology division, which the business said is “central to the company’s strategic development”.

Chima will be responsible for technology upgrades. She joins Burberry from Walmart Asia, where she was corporate vice-president and CIO responsible for aligning the retailer’s ecommerce strategies with technology solutions in the region.
