Burberry shares jump following Coach merger speculation

Markets reacted positively to suggestions of the cross-Atlanatic partnership.

Burberry Group shares have risen by 5.3% following reports that US accessories brand Coach is considering merging with the UK-based luxury label known for its trench coats.

Coach has been working with financial advisors at Evercore for a number of weeks on a possible deal, financial blog Betaville reported, citing two unnamed sources familiar with the situation. The merger would create a $20bn (£16.4bn) luxury clothing giant, the website said.

It follows a report from the Financial Times earlier this year that Burberry asked advisors at Robey Warshaw to help prepare a deal.

Drapers has contacted both Coach and Burberry for comment.
