Burberry tops Instagram list

Burberry is the most popular British brand on Instagram for the second year running with 10.4 million followers, up two million from last year.

The luxury brand’s Instagram account has an engagement rate - the number of likes and comments divided by the number of followers at the time of the post - of 0.57%.

According to Iconosquare’s second annual study into the social media presence of British brands, it is followed by Topshop, Jimmy Choo and Asos.

These had 9.2 million, 7.3 million and 6.6 million followers respectively and engagement rates of 0.86%, 0.94% and 0.8%.

Other fashion brands in the top 10 include Alexander McQueen at number six and Stella McCartney and number nine.

Fashion brands also proved more popular than automotive companies such as Jaguar and Aston Martin, which sat at fifth (5.5 million followers) and seventh (4.7 million followers) in the rankings.

British fashion brands’ Instagram presences are dwarfed, however, by those in the US as Nike boasts 75.2 million followers, Victoria’s Secret 57.7 million and Chanel 25 million.
