Italian tailoring giant Canali has appointed Burberry sales manager Julian Manning to head up its UK operations.
Manning has been Burberry menswear sales manager for the UK and RoI for three years. He also worked at Ermenegildo Zegba as sales and marketing manger for northern Europe.
His appointment follows the brand’s decision to take its UK arm in-house, which marked the end of its 30-year relationship with previous UK sales agent Keith Horsley.
Manning said: “Keith did a superb job at establishing Canali in the UK and I will ensure retailers continue to enjoy that success. There will be no change to the logistical side.”
The UK and Republic of Ireland is Canali’s third biggest market behind the US and Italy.
Canali managing director Paolo Canali said that he was very happy with the distribution in the UK.
“These kind of changes are part of the evolution of a company. Julian will fit well, it was important to find someone from a premium brand background but also has experience in both retail and wholesale so they have first-hand knowledge of what happens in stores.”
Canali launched its Winter’s Tale range as part of its Exclusive collection at the Pitti Uomo menswear show in Florence last week.
The range features Super 160 wool suits, with clean lines and longer lengths, with single pleated trousers. Detailing includes silk buttonholes and contrast stitching.
It has also launched a Black Diamond eveningwear range which includes a velvet tuxedo and dress footwear.
Canali has around 50 stockists in the UK and RoI including Harrods, Selfridges, Louis Copeland and Brown Thomas. The brand has one franchise store in London, on Bond Street.
