Chanel wins approval to expand Bond Street flagship

Westminster City Council has granted permission for Chanel to expand its Bond Street flagship, which will see it convert an entire office floor into retail space.

The proposals for the Grade II-listed building, at 173 Bond Street, seek to demolish the building behind a retained front façade and the third, fourth and fifth levels.

Beverley Aspinall, managing director of the Bond Street Development Group, which is made of senior directors from the district’s leading retailers, said: “Chanel’s decision to expand its UK flagship signifies the area’s ever increasing allure to international luxury brands.

“Bond Street is a key driver of London’s economic growth and our £20m investment plan over the next five years will see the public realm transformed, so that the standard of the street matches the excellence of our stores.”
