Change is in the air as season kicks off

There is nothing like a new season to lift the spirits. What is more encouraging is that we are starting to see some interesting new looks emerge for spring 10, which should help tempt the confidence-knocked consumer.

Take the directional denim look featured on the front cover of this Menswear Special, the first of our seasonal specials. It is not a look normally associated with the sharp suiting of Pitti Uomo, but that’s where our team found it and felt the need to bring it to your attention.

On the subject of the new, Drapers will have a new editor from the next edition. After two-and-a-half action and fun-packed years I am moving on to our sister business, global trend and style forecaster WGSN, as digital development director. One of my first roles will be to work on a relaunch of the business, which was just what I was charged to do when I arrived at Drapers in 2007.

Since then this team and I have relaunched this magazine, its website (twice), established a new set of awards for the etail sector, and much more. We did all that with unswerving support and encouragement from you, our readers. For that I want to thank you all sincerely.

There is plenty more to come from Drapers, and I hand over the reins with great pride to the multi-talented Jessica Price Brown, who will take this brand to new heights. I will continue to work with Drapers on content sharing with WGSN and I will retain the chair for our Fashion Summit in November (that too has had a makeover).

I look forward to seeing you there and working with you in my new role. Editing Drapers for you has been a privilege.
