Jonathon Brown has left his role as chief executive at discount etailer MandM Direct to pursue new opportunities.
He left the business at the end of last year by mutual agreement, according to chairman Mike Tomkins, who is running the firm on an interim basis alongside existing management.
“Originally we were going to float but then we went with a private sale to Bestseller in 2014 and Jonathon has left to look for something new,” said Tomkins. “We wish him all the best.”
Brown was previously director of online at John Lewis from October 2009 to July 2012, and director of multichannel at B&Q from January 2007 to October 2009.
He was head of echannels at Aviva from August 2004 to January 2007.
MandM Direct specialises in discount fashion, sportswear and footwear online and was bought by Danish firm Bestseller for £140m in August 2014. It has dedicated local market websites covering the UK, German, French, Austrian, Dutch and Polish markets, and serves more than 20 additional countries worldwide. It was founded in 1987 and headquartered in Leominster in the UK.
Tomkins said MandM Direct had a good Christmas period, and is ahead of the previous year in terms of both sales and profits.
“We had an exceptional November and a tough start to December after Black Friday, which put the consumer on cold turkey,” he said. “It picked up again in the final two weeks.”
