Consumers will be urged to go to their local independent retailers during the festive season this year, as part of a new campaign from the organiser of the Independent Retailer Month.
The campaign - dubbed Celebrate Independent Christmas - will run for six weeks from November 12, and aims to prompt customers to visit local businesses through a range of activities, including “Christmas shopping crawls”.
The nationwide initiative will aim to highlight the “more unusual gifts, unique outfits, delicious treats or special social occasions” on offer at indies and boutiques.
Clare Rayner, retail expert and founder of consultancy and business support provider, The Retail Champion, said: “The first step in re-engaging disenchanted consumers with the high street is to give them a good reason to visit; the next step is for the businesses trading there to showcase what they’ve been missing out on! Christmas shopping crawls, if well implemented, can deliver exactly that.”
The Christmas campaign follows on from the Independent Retailers’ Month, also organised by Rayner, which saw at least one fashion retailer boost sales.
