Christopher Kane takes home top Scottish Award

Christopher Kane has been awarded Scottish Designer of the Year 2013, with judges praising his ‘unique yet ownable’ collections.

The awards, held last night at Dover House, the Scotland Office in London,  saw Kane take the top gong, celebrating a year in which his eponymous label received multi-million pound investment from luxury brand house Kering.

French label Chanel picked up International Designer of the Year after having held its annual ready-to-wear show at Linlithgow Palace in Scotland last November.

The use of Scottish cashmere alongside traditional tartans and fine yarns in the show was also applauded by the judges.

Punk fashion icon Pam Hogg was recognised for Creative Excellence, while Harris Tweed Hebrides collected the Scottish Fashion Ambassador award for its outstanding contribution to fashion.

Other winners included singer Emeli Sande, who picked up Scottish Fashion Icon of the Year, Schuh, which was awarded Best Scottish Retailer and Jennifer Morris, whose luxury ready to wear work scooped Young Designer of the Year.
