Christos Angelides could take top job Abercrombie & Fitch

Drapers understands former Next group product director Christos Angelides is in the running for the top job at Abercrombie & Fitch, after chief executive Mike Jeffries stepped down on Tuesday with immediate effect.

Jeffries has come under fire as Abercrombie and Hollister clothing sales and profits have plummeted over recent seasons. He was stripped of his chairman role earlier this year.

Angelides joined the company as president of both the mainline and Abercrombie Kids in October after 28 years at Next.

A source familiar with the situation said: “Angelides went there to make a change and he has been listened to, which has put him in a strong position.”
