Claire's appoints new chief executive

Fashion accessories chain Claire’s is set for international expansion after appointing James Fielding as chief executive officer.

Fielding will step into the position on June 18, joining the company’s board of directors. He was previously at Walt Disney where he was most recently worldwide president of the Disney stores, responsible for the global operations of 360 Disney stores in 12 countries.

Fielding said at Claire’s he was looking forward to capitalising on growth opportunities such as international expansion in markets including Mexico, India and China, plus the optimisation of e-commerce.

Chairman Peter Copses said: “Jim is a proven retail executive with 25 years of experience who possesses a compelling combination of leadership skills and merchandising acumen. At Disney Stores, Jim successfully managed a specialty retailer with significant international operations and a well-developed ecommerce business.”

He added: “Jim joins a talented and experienced senior management team at Claire’s today who have helped to build a successful foundation on which the company is well positioned to grow. We are confident in Jim’s ability to lead this team and to capitalise on the many growth opportunities available to Claire’s today.”
