Clarks appoints new chairman

Clarks has appointed former Burberry president Thomas O’Neill as chairman of the group from December 6.

The announcement comes as current chairman, Peter Davies, reaches the end of his term in the role.

O’Neill, who is already a non-executive director on the Clarks board, joins the company from Harry Winston, where he was president.

Prior to this he held the role of worldwide president of Burberry for Burberry from 2001 to 2004. O’Neill has also held senior roles at LVMH, Marc Jacobs and Tiffany & Co.

Melissa Potter, chief executive of Clarks, said O’Neill’s “extensive experience” working with global retail brands in the US, Europe and Asia combined with his “in-depth knowledge” of the Clarks business made him a natural choice for the role.

O’Neill said: “This is a wonderful company, with a strong heritage and exciting growth prospects globally. I look forward to being part of the next chapter in the story of this unique and much-loved brand.”
