Ravel has been given the boot by owner Clarks after more than 40 years on the UK high street. It is to close its 50 stores after failing to turn round persistent poor trading. Clarks will absorb any potentially profitable stores into the main chain and will sell remaining outlets, but aims to keep shops open until all stock has been sold. Ravel staff will transfer to the reformatted Clarks shops. Some suppliers told Drapers they had been left in the dark. One said: ‘We didn’t know it was closing until we heard it on the grapevine.’ Clarks said all suppliers had now been told.
