Fashion sales at John Lewis increased 7.8% for the week to June 27 compared with the previous year, boosted by strong performance from kids’ shoes and both women’s and men’s brands.
Total weekly sales grew by 3.2% during the week against the same week in 2014.
Online sales were up by 24.3% and the retailer trialled an “exclusive clearance preview” in stores, which was well received.
Stores in Exeter, Ipswich and Cardiff had the best uplift against the previous year.
Simon Russell, director of retail operations, said: “It would appear shoppers are planning for sporty summers aplenty, with both swimwear and sports also significantly ahead of last year.”
