Clothing and footwear prices rise by 1.1%

Clothing and footwear prices rose by 1.1% between February and March, compared with a 1.8% increase during the same period a year ago.

According to figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the main downward effect on clothing and footwear prices came from garments, particularly men’s outerwear.

Overall the Consumer Prices Index inflation fell to 4% in March, down from 4.4% in February.

The Retail Prices Index (RPI), which includes mortgage intest payments, also fell to 5.3% in March, down from 5.5% in February.
