Clothing tops the list of online purchases made in the UK, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Some 74% of adults have bought goods or services online, the data which covered the last three months has found. This is compared to 53% in 2008.
Almost half had purchased clothing, with 64% of 25 to 34-year-olds picking up clothes online.
The ONS said 38 million, or 76%, of British adults accessed the internet every day. This total had risen by 21 million since 2006.
Younger age groups are key adopters of ecommerce, with nine out of 10 people aged 25 to 34 having shopped online.
Older customers are also increasing their use of internet shopping, with 40% of those aged 65 and over buying online in 2014.
