Cold weather lifts fashion sales

Fashion sales heated up as the weather turned cold last week, as like-for-like sales grew 5.48% for the week to 27 January.

The BDO High Street Sales Tracker shows that there have been positive results in each of the first four weeks of 2019.

Total non-store sales increased 29.43%, compared with 18.47% growth in the equivalent week last year.

However, this was the third consecutive week of negative in-store sales for fashion, which declined 1.57%.

Total footfall on the high street dropped 6.1%. Shopping centre footfall fell 3.7% and retail parks, which had been the only destination to record positive footfall in the previous two weeks, decreased 2.3%.
