London Fashion Week Day 2: Runway to retail

Drapers fashion director Ian Wright gets technical with the styles that’ll be hitting stores come August.

Yesterday one of the most interesting developments was the emergence of the technical jacket for women. Long an easier category for menswear, the technical jacket should now be much more on the radar for the girls after both Christopher Raeburn and Thomas Tait both took the style beyond the world of coordinated pac-a-macs. While this isn’t exactly new territory for Raeburn, his autumn 13 styles were very nicely put together and had the luxuriousness needed to elevate familiar bomber and parka-esque styles above the ordinary. Tait too took on the technical but in a much more sci-fi way, his layering of the lightweight styles creating a dramatic, dystopian feel (the Bladerunner-style invite gave that one away somewhat…) that in reality were just as commercial. Look out for these (with varying degrees of technicality) during the season.
