London Fashion Week Find: Martina Spetlova

While London’s big names often grab all the attention during fashion week, each season I manage to come across a hidden gem somewhere in the depths of Somerset House or at one of the off schedule locations.

For spring 13 it was Martina Spetlova and her fearlessly creative and colourful womenswear. The Czech-born designer originally studied Chemistry in Prague, before ending up in the studios of Jeremy Scott, John Galliano and Giles Deacon via the fashion school holy place that is London’s Central Saint Martins.

Her spring 13 collection comprises signature patchworks of mashed up textures, contrasting colours and mismatched combinations of (very on trend) pleats, weaves and sheer panels.

A recent trip to Milan has seen orders placed from stores including Dante 5 and Curve US ahead of a stint at the London Showrooms in Paris – so it seems like it’s going to be a promising season for Spetlova.

Check out her spring 13 fashion film by Ruta Balseviciute below, which she premiered at Somerset House.
