Simple sophistication from the land of the rising sun to launch in February
As you may or may not have picked up, I’m a big fan of minimalism in fashion. Jil Sander, Cos, Uniqlo, the simplicity of style (when done properly)is always more satisfying to me than more extravagant pieces. Therefore it’s probably quite unsurprising I’m intrigued by the announcement Muji is bringing its Labo clothing line to the UK. Well, when I say ‘the UK’ I actually mean the retailer’s newly refurbished Carnaby Street store. Having proved popular in its native Japan, the move to expand sees Muji’s number one shops in France, Germany, Italy and the UK get the range which, being Japanese, is quiet, classic, calming even.
Satisfying details like shirt pockets designed to accommodate Muji’s pen and card case layer on the practicality making the clothes, as the brand puts it, “tools for living”. The fabrics too work hard – each textile has been chosen to exert the least amount of stress on the skin and are all organic, while buttons are made from recycled plastic. It’s nothing radical but there’s a familiarity that gives it a soothing quality and I’m rather taken by it.
Prices range from £19.95 - £149
