As I am sure you will all be expecting if you read my recent blog prior to Italian footwear tradeshow Micam, this week, for me, feels something akin to the first week of January when all the Christmas and New Year festivities are over.
Having been looking forward to the spring 13 edition of Micam since the autumn 12 edition in March, I was not disappointed. If anything, of my four visits to Micam, I would say this one offered the most in terms of new trends in footwear.
For the last two or three seasons, prior to spring 13, footwear trends didn’t move on that much with variations on the boat shoe and cork wedges commonplace in the exhibition halls at tradeshows.
This season however, new fabrications, heel shapes and shoe styles were seen in abundance and the impact of this summer’s wet weather was translated into footwear with an increase in ankle boots and other more trans-seasonal styles.
UK buyers at the show, and there were a lot for a show which takes place so late in the season, told me that they were impressed by Micam this season, not only in terms of the brands showing there, but more so by the standard of styles on offer for spring 13.
Drapers identified several brands that look strong for spring 13 and for more on this, see this Saturday’s issue of the magazine for a full report.
So now with another addition of Micam over and done with, and most of my contacts in the footwear trade probably taking a well-earned rest as the tradeshow season officially draws to a close, I will get over my post-Micam blues and just start looking forward to March 3 and the next edition.
This may also be an opportune time to mention that Drapers’ launched the 2013 edition of its footwear and accessories awards at Micam. To enter visit www.drapersfootwearaccessories.com
