Consumer price inflation falls to 3.4% in May

Consumer prices index (CPI) inflation fell to 3.4% in May from 3.7% in April year-on-year, the Office for National Statistics reported.

The all-items retail prices index (RPI) fell from 5.3% to 5.1% over the same period.

The report found clothing and footwear was one of the main contributors towards the growth in RPI, which saw prices in the category up 6.7%over the year, with the largest increase stemming from women’s outerwear. The clothing and footwear CPI rate remained flat in May.
