Consumer spend still stagnant

Fashion spend declined 0.59% this week, as retailers pin their hopes on a last-minute Christmas shopping flurry.

Like-for-like sales across all categories in the week to 14 December fell 2.4% compared with last year, BDO’s High Street Sales Tracker reveals.

In-store fashion like-for-like sales fell more sharply – by 3.9%.

The weather last week was warmer and damper than last year, and would have failed to put shoppers in the festive mood.
