Fashion sales rose 5.8% at John Lewis in the week to October 17, as the cooler weather boosted sales of new season merchandise.
Overall, sales at the department store chain were up 4.4% to £83.45m. Online sales grew by 13.1%.
Within fashion, womenswear was up 10.4%. Men’s own brand and branded casualwear also performed well, up 16.6% and 14.8% respectively. Men’s formalwear sales rose 10.3%.
David Barford, director of selling for London and the South, said: “We finished the week on a positive note, up 4.4% against last year, with the more seasonal weather helping us through the week.
“In our merchandise assortments, fashion led the way at 5.8% up, with womenswear and menswear new season merchandise finding favour helped by the cooler weather and great products.”
