Cortefiel ready for UK retail debut

Spanish retail giant Grupo Cortefiel will open its first UK standalone stores by the end of the summer.

The group is set to open stores for its eponymous fast-fashion chain, its younger Springfield chain and lingerie retailer Women’secret in The Centre in Livingston, Scotland.

It will also open Springfield and Women’secret stores in Leeds’ White Rose Centre, as well as a Women’secret store in One New Change, the new City of London scheme that will open in the autumn.

The stores will be the group’s first UK standalones. It previously opened a few concessions in Debenhams in September 2008, which later closed.

The stores are being opened as part of property giant Land Securities’ Brand Empire initiative, set up to help international retailers enter the UK market by handling recruitment, marketing and operations for the chains for a fee and a minimum contract.

Brand Empire chief executive Sanjay Sharma said Women’secret and Springfield could eventually have 50 UK stores each, whereas Cortefiel could open more than 30.
