Cross and Portas part ways after nine years

Mary Portas’ business partner Peter Cross has left their joint consultancy Portas to join John Lewis as director of communications.

Cross, who played a key role in developing the retail guru’s eponymous clothing line for House of Fraser, as well as the Portas Review and her TV work, will join John Lewis in June.

He will report directly to managing director Andy Street, taking on from Helen Dickinson who retires in April.

Portas said: “It has been nine incredibly successful years of exhilarating collaboration. I am naturally sorry to lose him but know his creativity and passion will be an enviable asset to a brand we already all recognise as one of Britain’s greatest retail success stories.”
