Cruise founder returns to industry with Sand role

Cruise founder Jim Gibson has made a surprise return to the industry to lead Sand’s retail operation.
Gibson, who sold Cruise to investment fund Kcaj for about £7 million last year, is expected to take on a consultancy role at the Scandinavian brand and will advise it on its retail strategy across both the UK and Europe.

Gibson said: “The deal is not cemented, but I expect to start work before the end of the year. I will appraise the whole retail proposition and set a new strategy, which is likely to include a concession operation.”

Last month Sand closed its UK showroom and handed its UK distribution rights to agency Gorland. Gorland boss Salim Kamourieh is understood to have introduced Sand to Gibson.

Gibson added: “Sand is looking at its whole operation from its head office in Scandinavia and is redefining what the business will do in each market, including in Germany and France. The brand has realised that it needs partnerships with people in each country and that the business cannot be run entirely from Denmark.”

Sand has about 75 accounts in the UK.
