Customers opt for umbrellas over fashion at John Lewis

John Lewis blamed “cooler weather” for a 1% dip in its fashion sales during the week ended April 16.

Menswear outperformed the rest of the fashion category, with sales up 6.3%. Beauty, wellbeing and leisure sales were up 4.7% on the same period last year.

Sales of umbrellas were up 246% year on year.

Total sales at the department store rose 5.3% to £75.34m.
