David Gandy designs M&S underwear range

Model David Gandy is creating an underwear line for Marks & Spencer.

David Gandy for Autograph will comprise 28 items including boxers, briefs and sleepwear. It will be available from September 18 in 250 stores nationwide and online.

The model, from Billericay in Essex, is already the face of the M&S Collections menswear range and has modelled for the company since 2011.

The collaboration follows the success of fellow model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Rosie for Autograph lingerie range, which launched in 2012 and sold 600,000 pieces in its first year. M&S already sells 14 million items of men’s underwear each year.

Menswear head of design Tony O’Connor told Drapers last month that Gandy took his M&S commitments “very seriously” and was strongly involved in the design element.

Director of menswear Scott Fyfe said: “This collaboration brings together our market-leading expertise with David’s unique viewpoint and eye for design and finishing.”

Gandy said: “It’s the first time I’ve been involved with the design and creation of a collection and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every minute. I’ve been keen to focus on the detail, from the quality of materials to everyday comfort and fit.”
