Debenhams appoints new CFO

Debenhams has appointed former John Lewis finance and strategy director Rachel Osborne as chief financial officer.

Osborne will replace Matt Smith, who is leaving to become finance director at Selfridges, when she joins on 17 September.

She worked at John Lewis from 2011 until 2015 and was most recently CFO at pizza delivery company Domino’s for a year.

Sergio Bucher, CEO of Debenhams, said: “Rachel has deep experience across a variety of retail and customer-facing businesses, and her commercial expertise will be invaluable as we build a strong financial foundation to underpin the transformation of Debenhams.”

  • Tough. Nobody is going to finance the sums required to transform Debenhams. The department store format is dying.
