Debenhams hires new retail ops director as Dales retires

Debenhams has hired Dixons Carphone’s central operations director Paul Justice as its new retail operations director, replacing Simon Dales.

Dales is retiring after working at Debenhams for 47 years.

Justice joins Debenhams on 23 October from Dixons Retail. He joined Dixons in 2010 as regional manager before becoming its central operations director. He retained the role after Dixons merged with Carphone Warehouse.

The move comes as the department store restructures its business in line with its “Debenhams Redesigned” strategy, with chief executive Sergio Bucher creating three new business units: fashion and home; beauty and beauty services; and food and events.

The reshuffle resulted in group trading director Suzanne Harlow’s departure, with the director role scrapped.
