Debenhams to axe brands and revamp stores

The new CEO of Debenhams, Sergio Bucher, will reportedly announce plans to revamp stores and cut further in-house brands later this week.

The department store chain is expected to announce a 3% rise in half-year sales to £1.6bn, and a 6% drop in half-year profits to £88.2m, on Thursday.

Bucher plans to increase the number of restaurants and beauty services in the retailer’s 165 shops to entice shoppers back onto the high street, according to The Telegraph.

The retailer will also reportedly review its Designers by Debenhams in-house brands which include Ben de Lisi, John Rocha and Julian MacDonald.

In December the retailer made the decision to cut Betty Jackson and to shrink the Jeff Banks collection.

  • Debenhams needs to concentrate on product in an appropriate environment. Too many of their stores have average collections in very average stores. They seriously need to up their game and restaurants is a diversion from the main issues at hand.
