Designers win LFW funding

Designers Christopher Kane, Erdem and Marios Schwab will all receive Fashion Forward sponsorship from the British Fashion Council, while 24 designer businesses will also receive New Generation sponsorship next season.

The Fashion Forward award provides cash for designers to help produce an on-schedule catwalk show at London Fashion Week. Kane, Erdem and Schwab will receive the award for a second successive season in February 2009.

Kane said: “I am delighted to have been awarded Fashion Forward sponsorship. It has provided invaluable assistance in terms of growing and raising the profile of the Christopher Kane label.”

BFC chief executive Hilary Riva added: “This season’s winners are on the way to establishing international businesses and reputations. We provide them with the platform and access to knowledge required to develop their businesses.”

The recipients of New Gen, sponsored by the Topshop chain, include Louise Goldin, Peter Pilotto and House of Holland for catwalk sponsorship, Nicholas Kirkwood and Fred Butler for event sponsorship and Felder Felder, Louise Gray and Meadham Kirchhoff for exhibition sponsorship.

New Gen was set up in 1993 to identify and support new international design talent.

London Fashion Week will run from February 20-24.
