Discounting fails to boost high street store sales in February

High street fashion store sales fell by 0.6% in February as Valentine’s Day and new season promotions failed to tempt consumers to brave the cold weather and go shopping, City AM reports.

Overall, sales across medium-sized high street chains fell by 0.2% last month, according to the BDO High Street Sales Tracker.

For the week ending March 1, fashion sales were down by 3.7% on a like-for-like basis despite the footfall created by the Debenhams Sale from February 24 to March 1.

The data excludes online sales.
