Footwear and clothing distributor 1927 is expanding its retail presence in Europe after it was acquired by Hilco Iberia, the Spanish division of investment firm Hilco Capital.
Following a deal in 2011, in which Hilco Capital acquired 1927’s UK arm, Hilco this week confirmed its Iberia arm had taken a majority stake in the entire group.
1927 is the European distributor for footwear brands including See by Chloé, Guess Footwear and Lucky Brand, plus clothing brands including Juicy Couture.
The size of the investment has not been disclosed, but as a result of the acquisition 1927 is now eyeing the expansion of its retail presence throughout the continent and in the UK.
1927’s chief executive and founder Paloma Perez told Drapers she was keen to open more footwear concessions in House of Fraser after its debut in HoF’s Oxford Street store in June last year, and is also considering a UK standalone store.
A fully transactional website will also be launched in the UK this autumn.
Perez said the investment would enable 1927 to work with more brands in both the footwear and clothing sectors. Although she would not be drawn on names, she added that she was already in talks with several brands that would “complement 1927’s current offer”.
1927 is also in talks with department store Karstadt as it looks to launch concessions in Germany.
The brand already has a retail presence in Spain via an outlet store on the outskirts of Madrid.
