Dolce & Gabbana turns stockist

Premium brand Dolce & Gabbana has opened a new concept store in Milan selling collections by emerging designers alongside its own product.

British designers Kinder Aggugini and Peter Jensen are among 24 names handpicked by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana for the launch collection, alongside Swedish designer Fannie Schiavoni, Dutch designer Christian Blanken and Cooperative Designs’ Annalisa Dunn and Dorothee Hagemann, who are also based in London.

The store, Dolce & Gabbana Via Spiga 2, aims to “give more visibility to fashion’s future protagonists and to their creations” and to be “a place of conversation” where shoppers can browse the internet as well as shop for product.

It the first time Dolce & Gabbana has stocked other brands and marks a significant shift of its business model. However, there are no immediate plans to replicate the concept in the UK or elsewhere around the world, the company said.

“We wanted to create a new, special place, unique in the world. With this project we give the emerging designers we have handpicked from all over the world visibility, offering them a real opportunity,” designers Dolce and Gabbana said in a statement.

“What happens there, happens only there and in this very moment in time. Now more than ever before, what matters to us is finding the balance between ethics and aesthetics.”

The brand added that the selection of designers will be “in constant transformation”.
