ITV’s period drama series Downton Abbey is readying a clothing line for fans in the US.
Gareth Neame, executive producer at production company Carnival Films, told Radio Times that US broadcaster NBC Universal was “working across an entire range of products coming out this year, from fashion, apparel and homeware and furniture to wallpapers, beauty products and stationery.”
The Julian Fellowes-penned series, which traces the fortunes of an aristocratic family from the sinking of the Titanic through to life after the First World War, launched in the US after it began airing here in the UK, peaking most recently with the third series.
Neame told Radio Times that NBC had held off rolling out merchandise because “no one wants to launch products if the show’s going to be a flop.”
“It’s very rare for a British drama to have this much retail potential and merchandising value,” he added.
It is not yet clear whether any of the products will be available in the UK.
