Drapers has teamed up with the British Fashion Council to launch a new award for UK fashion colleges.
The Drapers College Portfolio Award, in association with the BFC, will be presented at the annual Colleges Council open day, which takes place on May 3 at the BFC headquarters in Portland Place, central London.
A team of fashion designers, plus top names from UK womenswear and menswear retailers, will assess the work of the 14 colleges showcased on the day, and will then name the best-presented portfolio at the end of the event.
Fashion buyers, retailers, manufacturers and designers are all invited to attend the open day to scout for talent and get an early feel for the standard of graduate design. BFC chief executive Hilary Riva said the forum "consistently showcases outstanding British graduate talent and is a very important link between the fashion industry and the UK's top fashion colleges."
Northumbria University fashion design programme leader Chris Hodge, who attended the Colleges Council open day last year, said the college had made contact with a wide range of businesses at the event, "many of whom came back to our graduates with work offers".
Full details of the winning college and the names of the judges will be revealed in the May 12 issue of Drapers.
