Drapers launches new indie awards

Drapers is championing the independent retail sector with the launch of a new awards programme this year - Drapers Top Independents 2013.

With 12 categories, the awards will be the largest of their kind in the independent fashion sector and underline Drapers’ commitment to supporting these small businesses at the heart of the fashion community.

For the first time Drapers will also recognise the names behind the top indies with an Independent Inspirational Leader of the Year award up for grabs.

The ceremony will take place at London’s iconic Waldorf Hilton Hotel on the evening of October 17 and will celebrate excellence across the indie sector, with a range of categories recognising the top businesses and the people behind them.

Drapers’ editor in chief Caroline Nodder said: “Independent retailers are leading innovation within our industry with world-beating customer service and some of the most exciting brand edits out there and we wanted to celebrate the full breadth of what they have to offer with a dedicated event.

“If you run a successful indie then now is the time to celebrate that with your team and your peers by entering Drapers Top Independents 2013.”

For the full list of categories and to enter online go to or call 020 3033 2661.

The entry deadline is July 19.

  • about time too! too much space in drapers is given to the "high street" and the domineering multiples.

  • I would argue the opposite.

Independent boutiques do bring a point of difference to the Fashion industry. Great to recognise them 100% on this occasion.

Due to the heavy debate we had recently on a specific indie, did we or will we be looking at the financials, the business side of Fashion, before selecting the winner?

  • Hi Thierry,
We always ask for full turnover and profit figures from our awards entrants for the last 3 years where possible and consider them in the judging process and we will be doing this for the Drapers Top Independents 2013.
    Best wishes,
