Drapers Share Monitor - Blacks' tough stance pleases the City

The City responded well to Blacks Leisure Group's tougher stance, after it wrote to suppliers last week demanding tough new terms including an extra 30 days' credit and a 5% discount. Shares rose 9.75p to 304p.

However, Monsoon took a hit this week as a profit warning sent shares down 7.25p to 390.25p.

Talk that Debenhams could be in Baugur's sights last week resulted in a fluctuating share price for the department store chain, which eventually settled up 3.5p to 177.5p. No doubt its pre-close trading update, scheduled for Friday as Drapers went to press, will lead to more seesawing.

Brand house Marchpole signed two long-term distribution deals this week with Dubai-based Chalhoub and Russian distributor Crocus for its Jean-Charles de Castelbajac brand. Its shares rose 15p to 162p.
