Speculation that M&S boss Stuart Rose was in talks with other potential bidders for a joint attack on Sainsbury's last weekend got the City all excited. But by the end of the week neither company's share price had seen much impact. M&S dropped 1p to 687p, while the supermarket giant fell 2.75p to 515.25p.
Monsoon is yet to find a replacement for chief executive Rose Foster, who leaves in May to join La Senza. Former HoF finance boss David Adams was to take over as interim managing director, but decided against the move. Monsoon's share price fell 12.25p to 406p.
The sportswear market was still riding high, with stocks in JJB Sports and John David Group rising to 266p and 417.75p respectively.
Sports Direct's fortunes were less rosy, as City bookmakers suggested it would float lower than the expected £2 billion.
