Dune hires US head to drive expansion

The Dune Group has hired Richard Kelsey to head up its new US wholesale division, ahead of major growth plans in the country this year.

Kelsey joins as president of the department, having held several senior positions at footwear businesses including the Camuto Group and Kenneth Cole. Most recently he was president of brands Splendid and Ella Moss, part of US clothing and footwear business New York Transit.

Under Kelsey, Dune plans to launch a dedicated US website and flagship store in New York in the second half of this year. Dune will also show its first collection at Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) 2013 in June.

Owner and executive chairman Daniel Rubin said: “Launching Dune in the US market has been a dream of mine. I have been a frequent visitor to the US and in viewing the market I have always felt that Dune would perform outstandingly well and would offer something fresh and new.

“I am very excited to be working with Rich and the Dune team on this new adventure.”

Dune’s wholesale operations are a growing part of the group, which is now stocked by Selfridges, House of Fraser, John Lewis and Topshop in the UK, De Bijenkorf in Holland, Illum in Denmark, Kardstadt in Germany and most recently a pop-up shop in Galleries Lafayette in Paris.

Its retail arm is also expanding, with new stores planned for South Africa later this year, following the launch of a flagship store in the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai last month.
