Early signs of spring drive John Lewis fashion sales

Fashion sales at John Lewis rose by 14% in the week to February 28, helped by price matching and early signs of spring in some parts of the country.

Womenswear enjoyed the biggest increase, up 20% thanks to sales of new season stock.

Overall sales at the retailer climbed 7.6% to £74m from £69m during the same period last year, with online trading up 27%.

“Spring is just round the corner and all the signs are that the new season’s fashion and home assortments are hitting the mark with customers,” said Simon Russell, director of retail operations development for John Lewis.

  • Are these like for like sales? John Lewis recently added clothes into their High Wycombe branch, so YoY improvements highly likely at store level.
